The Inmate Reception Center is the front door to the Los Angeles County jail system for men. The Sheriff’s Department describes it as the central control for processing male prisoners, and states that it has functional supervision over the reception unit at the Century Regional Detention Facility, the booking function at the LAC/USC Medical Center jail wards, and the booking functions at all Sheriff’s facilities.
In plain terms: if a man has been arrested anywhere in Los Angeles County by the Sheriff or by many municipal agencies, this is usually where he ends up being processed — regardless of which city the arrest happened in.

Finding someone in the system
The Sheriff’s Department operates a public inmate information service and a booking log. Intake and processing take time, and a person who was arrested very recently may not appear immediately — which is not, by itself, a sign that anything has gone wrong.
If you are calling us, the useful details are the full name, the approximate date and time of arrest, and the city where it happened. From that we can usually establish which facility holds the person and what release terms apply.
How bail works once someone is here
Los Angeles County still publishes felony, misdemeanour and infraction bail schedules. The court describes them as determining the circumstances in which a person arrested without a warrant may be released before appearing in court. Money bail remains relevant for serious and violent felonies, for arrests on a warrant, where a judge sets or increases bail under Penal Code sections 1269c or 1270.1, and where the court restricts the source of bail under Penal Code section 1275.1.
