Who makes the arrest
This city contracts its law enforcement to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, policed from the Lakewood Station, 5130 Clark Avenue, Lakewood, CA 90712 — (562) 623-3500. The Sheriff lists that station as serving the City of Artesia, the City of Bellflower, the City of Hawaiian Gardens, the City of Lakewood, the City of Paramount, Unincorporated Cerritos and Unincorporated Long Beach.
The Sheriff provides patrol services to 153 unincorporated communities and 42 of the county’s 88 cities. There is no city jail here, so deputies handle the arrest from the outset and the route runs into county custody.
That puts Bellflower in a different position from neighbouring Downey, which runs its own police department and holds people locally during booking. In Bellflower the route runs into county custody from the outset.
Do not assume a bond is needed. Since 1 October 2023 the Superior Court’s Pre-Arraignment Release Protocols mean many people arrested in Los Angeles County for non-violent, non-serious felonies and misdemeanours are cited and released at the scene, or booked and released on their own recognisance, with no money bail at all. Money bail still applies to serious and violent felonies, to arrests on a warrant, where a judge sets or increases bail under Penal Code sections 1269c or 1270.1, and where the court restricts the source of bail under Penal Code section 1275.1. Los Angeles County books men and women into different facilities, which is one reason families are told there is no record of their relative. Which courthouse
Bellflower has a courthouse of its own, which sets it apart from most of the cities around it. The Bellflower Courthouse is at 10025 E. Flower Street, Bellflower, CA 90706 — (562) 345-3300. The court lists a criminal clerk’s office, a district attorney and a public defender at that building, and publishes its hours as 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the clerk’s office open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday except court holidays. It does not list a traffic clerk’s office.

Common questions
Is my relative at the Lakewood station or in county custody?
Bellflower runs no city jail of its own — it contracts policing to the Los Angeles County Sheriff, from the Lakewood Station, and the case route runs into the county system. A person may still be at the station during booking before that transfer happens, so ring the station on (562) 623-3500 to confirm where they are before anyone travels.
Where should I look?
The Inmate Reception Center downtown for men, Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood for women. Never assume both are the same place — they are not.
Do we need a bail bond?
Often not. Since October 2023 many non-violent, non-serious arrests in LA County proceed without money bail. We will tell you honestly if that is your situation.
