Who makes the arrest in Pomona
The Pomona Police Department is at 490 W. Mission Boulevard, Pomona, CA 91766. Pomona runs its own municipal force rather than contracting to the Sheriff, unlike neighbouring Diamond Bar and Walnut.
That distinction matters on the night, because Pomona also runs its own jail. The department publishes a direct jail line, (909) 620-2131, and a 24-hour non-emergency line, (909) 622-1241. The front desk itself is open Monday to Thursday only, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., because the city closes on Fridays.
So a Pomona arrestee may be held at the city jail first and transferred into county custody afterwards, rather than going straight downtown. That is one reason a Los Angeles County custody search may initially return no result after a Pomona arrest. Confirm where the person actually is before anyone travels.
The county line
Claremont and the Inland Empire begin just east of here. An arrest across that boundary is a San Bernardino County matter with its own sheriff, its own jails, its own courthouse and its own bail schedule — and critically, without Los Angeles County’s Pre-Arraignment Release Protocols.
That is a genuinely large practical difference. The same conduct a few miles apart can mean release with no money bail on one side of the line, and a scheduled bail amount on the other. Establish which county you are dealing with before doing anything else.
Do not assume a bond is needed. Since 1 October 2023 the Superior Court’s Pre-Arraignment Release Protocols mean many people arrested in Los Angeles County for non-violent, non-serious felonies and misdemeanours are cited and released at the scene, or booked and released on their own recognisance, with no money bail at all. Money bail still applies to serious and violent felonies, to arrests on a warrant, where a judge sets or increases bail under Penal Code sections 1269c or 1270.1, and where the court restricts the source of bail under Penal Code section 1275.1. Los Angeles County books men and women into different facilities, which is one reason families are told there is no record of their relative. Our nearest office to Pomona

Common questions
Is this Los Angeles or San Bernardino County?
Pomona Police means Los Angeles County, heard at Pomona Courthouse South. An agency east of the line means San Bernardino County — different courts, different jails, and no LA County release protocols. It changes the answer completely.
Do we need a bail bond?
For an LA County arrest, often not — the release protocols cover many non-violent, non-serious cases. Across the line in San Bernardino County, a scheduled bail amount is far more likely to apply.
Where is my relative held?
Check with Pomona Police first, then county custody — Inmate Reception Center for men, Century Regional in Lynwood for women.
