Stanton contracts its law enforcement to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff puts a date on it: “The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has provided law enforcement services for Stanton since February of 1988 when the city Police Department and Sheriff’s Department merged.” Stanton has not had a municipal force since.

The Sheriff describes the Stanton assignment as five sergeants, twenty patrol deputies, a motor deputy, two deputies on the city’s Community Enhancement Team, two investigators, two investigative assistants, two office specialists and a part-time cadet.

That changes the practical shape of the first few hours. There is no municipal jail in Stanton to hold someone in while booking is sorted out.
