Fullerton is a city of about 140,000 people with two features that shape its arrest pattern: California State University, Fullerton, one of the largest campuses in the CSU system, and the bar and restaurant district around Harbor Boulevard and Commonwealth in the downtown core. Where someone is held after a Fullerton arrest

There are two realistic answers, and they lead to very different timelines.

Under Penal Code section 1269b, the officer in charge of a jail where a person is held is among those authorised to approve and accept bail, and the superior court judges of each county must adopt and annually revise a uniform countywide bail schedule. That is why posting at the schedule is often possible before any court appearance — and why the amount is usually already fixed before anyone speaks to a judge.

Common questions

Is my relative at the Fullerton city jail or at the county?

Either is possible. Fullerton runs a city jail at the police department on West Commonwealth Avenue, and more serious cases are transferred into county custody at the Orange County Intake Release Center in Santa Ana. We check both. It is the first question we answer on a Fullerton call because everything else depends on it.

The courthouse is in Fullerton. Does that make the case faster?

Not by itself. Having the North Justice Center in the same city reduces travel for you, and it means the arresting agency and the court are geographically close, but court scheduling is set by the court and we cannot guarantee any timeline.
