Not a La Mirada one – the city has no municipal jail. La Mirada contracts its policing to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, from the Norwalk Station. Is this a Los Angeles County or an Orange County case?
Whichever agency made the arrest settles it. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies means an LA County case heard at the Norwalk Courthouse. La Habra, Buena Park or Fullerton police means an Orange County case with an entirely different system. La Mirada borders all of that, so tell us as precisely as you can where it happened.
Does the county actually change whether we need a bond?
Substantially, and this is the most important thing on this page. Los Angeles County has applied Pre-Arraignment Release Protocols since 1 October 2023, so many non-violent, non-serious arrests proceed with no money bail at all. Orange County still runs a uniform countywide bail schedule under Penal Code section 1269b, where posting the scheduled amount is often the fastest lawful route out. Same conduct, a few streets apart, genuinely different answers.

Who makes the arrest in La Mirada
La Mirada contracts its law enforcement to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, policed from the Norwalk Station, 12335 Civic Center Drive, Norwalk, CA 90650 — (562) 863-8711. The Sheriff lists that station as serving the City of Norwalk, the City of La Mirada, and South and East Unincorporated Whittier.
That address matters: a La Mirada arrest is booked at Norwalk, not anywhere in La Mirada. If you have been given an address on La Mirada Boulevard, check it before you drive there.
The Sheriff provides patrol services to 153 unincorporated communities and 42 of the county’s 88 cities. There is no La Mirada city jail, so deputies handle the arrest from the outset and the route runs into county custody — unlike neighbouring Whittier, which runs its own force and its own jail.
Do not assume a bond is needed
Since 1 October 2023 the Superior Court’s Pre-Arraignment Release Protocols mean many people arrested in Los Angeles County for non-violent, non-serious felonies and misdemeanours are cited and released, or released on their own recognisance, with no money bail at all. Money bail still applies to serious and violent felonies, to arrests on a warrant, where a judge sets or increases bail under Penal Code sections 1269c or 1270.1, and where the source of bail is restricted under Penal Code section 1275.1. One reason LA County families are told there is no record of their relative. Men are processed at the Inmate Reception Center in downtown Los Angeles — 24-hour intake (213) 473-6080. Women are held at the Century Regional Detention Facility, 11705 S. Alameda Street, Lynwood — (323) 568-4500. About twelve miles apart.

Penal Code 1270.1 requires a hearing in open court, on two court days’ written notice, before release on own recognisance or at a non-schedule amount for felony PC 273.5, PC 422 and any PC 273.6 violation.
DUI

What happens after a domestic violence arrest in La Mirada?
Sheriff’s deputies handle the arrest and an Emergency Protective Order may be issued at or shortly after the scene. Under Family Code section 6256 an EPO expires at the close of judicial business on the fifth court day or the seventh calendar day, whichever is first. The code section then decides the release path – PC 243(e)(1) requires no injury, while felony PC 273.5 and any PC 273.6 violation trigger the open-court hearing requirement in Penal Code 1270.1, which is state law and applies in both counties.
