The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is the largest trial court in the United States, organised into judicial districts. Three of them cover the area we work from our La Habra office on the county line — the Southeast, East and South districts.

Districts, not a single courthouse
Because the county is so large, its criminal calendar is spread across judicial districts rather than a handful of buildings. The case is heard in the district covering the city where the arrest happened.
There is a second thing worth knowing before you plan a court date here. Since 1 October 2023, Los Angeles County has operated Pre-Arraignment Release Protocols, and for many non-violent, non-serious felonies and misdemeanors a person is released without money bail at all. We do not have a Los Angeles County office. Our La Habra office sits directly on the county line, and that is the area we concentrate on.

Which courthouse handles the case?
As in any California county, it follows where the arrest happened. In Los Angeles County there is an extra step, because nearly half the county is policed by the Sheriff under contract rather than by a city police department — and that decides which station holds the paperwork.
- Southeast District — Norwalk, Whittier and Downey courthouses, covering most of the Gateway cities.
- East District — Pomona South and West Covina courthouses, covering the eastern San Gabriel Valley.
- South District — the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse in Long Beach.
One arrangement catches people out: Santa Fe Springs contracts its policing to the Whittier Police Department rather than to the Sheriff, so a Santa Fe Springs arrestee may be held in the Whittier city jail rather than entering county custody at all.
Before the court date — where people are held
Los Angeles County books men and women into different facilities, and this sends families to the wrong building more often than anything else on this page.
- Inmate Reception Center (IRC) — the central processing point for male prisoners, in the downtown Los Angeles complex. The Sheriff publishes a 24-hour inmate information line at (213) 473-6080.
- Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF) — 11705 S Alameda St, Lynwood, CA 90262. This facility holds female inmates only. Inmate information (213) 473-6100.

Tell us the person’s full name and roughly when and where they were arrested. We will establish which facility is holding them, which courthouse has the case, and what release terms apply under the current protocols — before you commit to anything. If the answer is that you do not need a bond, we will say so.
