DUI Bail in Anaheim
DUI is one of the highest-volume bookings at the Anaheim Detention Facility. What happens overnight, why release is not immediate even when the money is ready, and what changes the figure.
A DUI arrest in Anaheim usually ends at the Anaheim Detention Facility on South Harbor Boulevard, and it is consistently one of the highest-volume bookings there. Two things make DUI different from every other charge we handle: the bail figure is often modest, and the release still may not happen quickly, because sobriety — not money — controls the timing.
What actually happens on a DUI night in Anaheim
- Arrest and transport to the detention facility at 425 South Harbor Boulevard. Public entrance on Santa Ana Street, west of Harbor.
- Chemical test and booking. Identification, photograph, fingerprints, records check, property inventory, medical screening.
- Bail is set from the charge as booked, under the Orange County uniform bail schedule.
- A hold for sobriety. A jail will not release someone whose level of intoxication makes release unsafe. This is standard practice across Orange County city jails and it is the reason families wait when everything else is done.
- Release, then the court date at the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
- A separate DMV clock starts. The DMV process runs independently of the criminal case and has its own short deadline. Ask a defence lawyer about it immediately — that is not something a bail agency handles.
What moves the bail figure
A first misdemeanour DUI under Vehicle Code § 23152 sits at the lower end of the Orange County schedule. The amount climbs with the facts, not with how the arrest felt:
- Injury. A DUI causing injury under Vehicle Code § 23153 is a different and far more serious charge, and can be filed as a felony.
- Prior convictions within the statutory look-back period.
- A very high blood alcohol level or a refusal.
- A child in the vehicle.
- A separate warrant, which carries its own bail on top — see warrants.
- Probation status, which can produce a hold no bond will clear — see probation violations.
We will read the schedule against the charge as booked and tell you the real number. Method: Orange County bail amount lookup. The full schedule walkthrough is at Orange County bail schedule explained.
Why the money is not the bottleneck
This is the single most useful thing to know before you drive to the jail at 2 a.m. Posting a bond does not override a jail’s duty of care. If the person is still intoxicated, the release waits — and no amount of arguing at a counter changes it.
The right sequence is therefore: get the bail amount, arrange the bond so it is in place, and let the release happen when the facility authorises it. Arranging the bond early does not waste money; it removes the last step from the queue.
Citation release, and when it does not apply
Some misdemeanour DUI arrestees are released on a citation with a court date rather than held for bail. Whether that happens depends on the booking facts, the record and the facility — it is not something anyone can promise you in advance. If it happens, there is no bond to post and we will tell you so rather than sell you one.

Questions we get asked most
How much is bail for a DUI in Anaheim?
It comes from the charge as booked under the Orange County bail schedule. A first misdemeanour DUI sits at the lower end; injury, priors, a refusal or a child in the car move it up, and a separate warrant adds its own amount. Call us and we will read the actual booking.
Why has my family member not been released after I paid?
Most often because they are not yet sober enough to be released safely. A jail will not release someone when intoxication makes it unsafe, regardless of the bond.
Can a DUI arrest end without any bail?
Yes — some misdemeanour DUI arrestees are released on a citation with a court date. It depends on the booking facts and the record, and nobody can promise it in advance.
Does posting bail deal with the DMV?
No. The DMV process is separate from the criminal case and runs on its own short deadline. Speak to a defence lawyer about it straight away.
Where will the case be heard?
The North Justice Center in Fullerton hears criminal cases from Anaheim arrests.
