Los Angeles County custody
Lakewood Sheriff’s Station
A Type I station jail on Clark Avenue — 96 hours rather than 24, and why that changes your timetable.
The Lakewood Sheriff’s Station is one of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s stations serving the southeast communities we cover. It holds a Type I classification — meaning it may hold a person for not more than 96 hours, excluding holidays, after booking, four times the window of a Temporary Holding facility.

Check whether a bond is needed at all
This is Los Angeles County, so the first question is not “how much” but “whether”. Since 1 October 2023 the county’s pre-arraignment release protocols designate most non-violent, non-serious offences CR, BR or MR at $0 bail. Domestic violence, nearly all serious or violent felonies and constitutionally excluded offences still carry a dollar figure. Establish which applies with LA County bail amount lookup.
Ninety-six hours is not a promise
It is the regulatory maximum for the building, not a forecast. Most people are released, cited or transferred well before it. If a transfer to the Inmate Reception Center happens, the release moves downtown and the queue lengthens considerably — see jail transfers and how long release takes.
Questions we get asked most
How long can the Lakewood station hold someone?
It is a Type I facility, so not more than 96 hours excluding holidays after booking. Most people leave well before that.
Is a bail bond needed for a Lakewood-area arrest?
Often not. Most non-violent, non-serious Los Angeles County arrests are released at $0 bail before arraignment. Domestic violence and serious or violent felonies still carry money bail.
Where is someone transferred to?
To the Inmate Reception Center at 450 Bauchet Street in downtown Los Angeles, which handles intake and release for the county.
Why does the inmate search show nothing?
The Sheriff publishes no record for bookings made in the last two hours.
